Half Naked Bikers
By Nick | July 2, 2008
Some things confuse me. Today I was driving down the road and I saw a guy on a Harley that was wearing flip-flops, shorts, and no shirt.
I realize that it is hotter than Hades out there, but what the hell is this guy thinking? All it takes is one idiot to swerve and make a mistake and have this guy skidding all over the road. I am talking serious flesh meets pavement. Can anyone explain to me why guys like this don’t wear any sort of protection. I mean come on, at least wear boots, Jeans and a shirt….that’s not too much to ask is it? Protect yourself from road rash guys. More importantly, protect yourselves so that I don’t have to see your body be ground up like hamburger while I am sitting at a stop light and you come sliding by. I’m not down with that.

I’ll Bet I Could Sell Anything!
By Nick | July 1, 2008
I am amazed at the crap you can unload on eBay. Just today I sold a 12 year old pair of used Doc Marten’s shoes for $46.00. It blows me away that people want to buy the junk I have stored in my closet. I’ll bet I could sell anything on there. In fact, I feel like an experiment is in order. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try to sell? The more ridiculous the better. Let’s keep it clean though!

Vintage Saturday Night Live: George Carlin R.I.P.
By Nick | June 30, 2008
If anyone caught SNL this weekend you got to see SNL’s very first episode (the original air date was October 11, 1975). It was a tribute to George Carlin as he was their first guest host.
I found it interesting to see how different the format of the show was back then. There were several monologues by George Carlin throughout the show, another stand up comedian act, and two musical guests (Billy Preston and Janice Ian) who both played two seperate times. Along with all of this, there were the typical sketches that we all know and love as well as several parody commercials, some of which I thought did not go over too well.
While watching, I could tell that the cast members had not quite yet found their mojo and at some points I felt like the audience just didnt get what was going on.
I had never seen this episode in it’s entirety before. It was a welcomed change of pace and good to see where the show started.

Shane and Jordan
By Nick | June 30, 2008
My youngest sister, Callie, took a photography class at school and has since fallen in love with the medium. Its all film based and all processed by her in the darkroom.
This was one of my favorites of the images that she mailed to me. I love the composition and the lighting. The rest of the series with Shane and Jordan she has not scanned yet, but it was based on an assignment where she had to tell a story with pictures. I think there were 5 photos each of them another piece to the story. The photos she took definitely told the story she was trying to capture. I will post the rest of the images once she sends them to me.

In A Funk
By Nick | June 26, 2008
Haven’t written in a while. I’ve been in a funk for a few weeks now. Nothing is seeming to get me motivated or inspired. Work has got me drained due to the monotony. I really need another web project to keep me going….need to inject some creativity into my life. Ugh.
Making sales calls and emails lately has been a real drag. Running into a dry spell and hoping for a deluge.

Band on Band Action
By Nick | June 23, 2008
Check out this video…Weezer, one of my favorite bands covering Radiohead…my all time favorite. This is really cool stuff. Weezer invited their fans to come play with them. It really surprises me because when I saw Weezer in concert at the Boathouse several years back, they didnt seem to give a crap about their fans.
Anyways, check this out.
Weezer cover Radiohead’s Creep, live in Portland from Dave Allen on Vimeo.

Monkeycycle
By Nick | June 23, 2008
Christy send me this video. Very impressive if I do say so. Check out how he looks both ways to see if cars are coming. That monkey is smart! In fact, I think he drives better than many of these people in Virginia Beach.

Vintage Addition to My Surfboard Quiver
By Nick | June 18, 2008
I just picked up this board from my friend Austin of Austin Surfboards. This brings my quiver up to 8 boards (I am a little insane). It was from his personal collection. He got it a few years ago from a guy who had it stored under his house for 20 some odd years. Austin took it in, sanded it down and reglassed it. It hasn’t been ridden since.
It’s a vintage Hobie Pig-shaped Longboard with a glassed on wooden D-fin. I attempted to get some information from Hobie, but the email response I got back said that all of their records pre-late 80s were accidentally thrown out in a warehouse move. He could not give me any info based on the board’s serial number. That being said, I went to Longboard.net and submitted a post on the forum. The guys there assured me that this board is from the early 60’s. More than likely it was a stock board shaped in 1962. That’s the era in surfing that fascinates me.
I’ve always wanted to have equipment that was used before all the advances in surfboard shaping were made. I wanted to surf a board that demonstrates to me what the guys in surfing’s golden-era had to work with. Judging by the weight and rails on this board, it will not be very forgiving. This thing is a barge.
I can’t wait to take it out.
If you’re interested and want to see more pictures, they can be seen here, here, here, here, and here.
