The Maiden Voyage That Never Was
By Nick | March 19, 2008
So I got up this morning and looked at the surf camera for the Jetty at first street and the waves were smokin’! I thought to myself…this will be a great day to try out one of my brand new boards that I got from Austin. So I did my thing at work and at about 3:30 left to go home to pickup my Soul Glide. I was stoked, I was happy, I was ready to get back in the water. My first surf of the year and my first surf on this board. What could be better.
So I get home, open the garage door and pull the board out and set it up on the roof of my car. It was kind of windy, but I didnt think anything of it. I opened the rear passenger door to get my tie down straps for the roof rack. At that moment a huge gust of wind caught the board, flipped it off the roof in the air about 3 times and kindly slammed it up against a tree. I wrecked the new board before it even touched the water. I was so pissed. I have other boards that I could have taken out, but by that time I was in no mood to surf.
I took the board down to Austin with my tail tucked between my legs. I was embarrassed to bring the board in with a ding like that and not have a good war story. They only harassed me a little bit, fortunately. Now it undergoes its first surgery. Hopefully you won’t be able to tell after they are done repairing it.

No way! That sucks!
If I was Austin I would airbrush a nice huge band-aid across the nose of your board!
I will say that you are much better than I am. After looking at the surf in the AM if I could have gone surfing I would have. However it just sucked to be me and I was stuck at work. You did get a little closer than I did, close but no cigar.
