Ben Folds, The Norva
By Nick | April 10, 2008
What an intense show! Ben is an amazing pianist…powerful keyboard work. In fact his playing is so powerful that on the second song of the set he actually broke a piano string. How do you do that? I have never even heard of that happening.
Christy and I got great spots on the balcony standing directly over Ben. He used various thing at different times on the piano strings to simulate different sounds. At one point he had two Altoids tins and a tin cookie can lid sitting on the strings to make a very strange, old timey keyboard sound. Very creative use of the Piano.
The show was amazing…they played several of my favorites including Kate, Narcolepsy, Fred Jones, and Army. I wish that they would have played Song for the Dumped, but hey…there is always next time. Ben was full of energy and really got the crowd involved.
If you’ve never heard of Ben you really need to check him out.

It was a great show! High energy and the crowd loved it! We especially enjoyed the kid with KYLE written on his forehead in sharpy-he knew every word. It may have been the best night of his young life.
Also, the opening act was great! He is Eef Barzelay, the lead singer from Clem Snide. Very funny and unique and an awesome performer. Check him out as well.

Woah, that guy is Eef Barzelay. He opened for him when he came to the Norva two years ago. Also two years ago, he broke a string like 10 minutes into the whole thing. I guess he does it pretty often; what a rad guy.
