Qatar Bound…Not me, my sister!
By Nick | April 16, 2008
As some of you may know, my sister is a fashion design student (and a damn fine one too) at VCU in Richmond, VA. Today I got a call from her saying that she and her design partner had won a design contest.
From her blog:
May 5th I’ll be going to Qatar for a week. (It’s over on the Persain Gulf, MIddle East)
Why? BECAUSE I WON *_*
I’m in this class called “give me shelter” and there’s two parts. The first part we had to (with a partner) design a rather traditional abaya, the second part was (on our own) to design a western abaya or rather a garment inspired by the abaya. The tradtional ones were sent over seas to be made, today we got them back. Also today we found out who won to go over seas to the Qatar campus’ fashion show with the collection.
The design my partner and I created won … yes, my design WON!
How exciting is that!? I’ve never won anything before like this with my OWN design.
The trip is completely paid for by the school and we’ll be there a week.
This is really unbelievable. As soon as the department head said my name I went “Are you serious!?”
I am so proud of that kid….she’s definitely going to go places in the fashion industry…I can feel it. Too bad she won’t be able to make her living close to home….I’ll miss her as she travels the globe on this and other projects.
Congratulations, Shelby.
