CDs vs. Downloads
By Nick | May 5, 2008
This weekend on my way to Charlottesville I stopped into BestBuy to pick up the new Portishead album (which rocks by the way). When I got back into the car it got me to thinking about the newest craze of downloading music from Itunes or Amazon. Sure it’s an environmentally conscious act, and yes it does satisfy instant gratification for those who are fueled by that, but personally I just can’t buy into it downloading music.
If I am going to fork over $15 - $20 of my money, I want something tangible to show for it. I want to touch and feel the CD…I want to be able to look at the album artwork. Album artwork is as much a part of the experience for me as the music itself!!!
On top of that, if I ever get tired of the album, I have something tangible to sell and can recuperate some of my money!!! If I were to download it and try to sell it, the RIAA would be all over my ass!
That being said, I will continue to purchase CDs until they are no longer available for sale. Sure, my CD collection takes up tons of needed space, but I just gotta have something I can look at!

I just downloaded Snow Patrol off iTunes. Went to the story yesterday and was really bummed I don’t have some gizmo that lets me listen to my downloads in my car.
Didn’t think about not being able to sell the CDs down the road. Probably because we have so many CDs lying around from the old days, it never crosses my mind we might actually get rid of one!
I may have to reconsider everything now.
