    Writer’s Block…Again

    By Nick | May 15, 2008

Can’t think of anything to write about.  Ugh.  I try to take about 15 minutes each day to post something here on the blog yesterday and today I have been struggling.

I just finished my big Blog365 project and I have to say… it is VERY nice to NOT have to come up with something everyday, and to just write when I actually have something to say.

Um, sir…you just wrote about having writer’s block…therefore you wrote something AND you are no longer blocked.

Yes, in case you are wondering, I’m having a half-full glass kind of day to make up for my glass is totally empty and I’m dying day yesterday…I’m shooting for a glass is going to keep being refilled with ice cold Corona type of evening but one never knows…dammit that was such a glass is half empty comment wasn’t it…please stop me before I non sequitur myself into a coma…

I have those days too, frequently, I just wish on those days I could keep my big old mouth shut, because it rattles whether I have anything of merit to say or not. Heh.

Yeah, it’s tough. I’m not the most verbose blogger as I often think what I say wouldn’t really be of interest to my readers.

If I’m not interested or excited enough to write about something, why force it?

@Brad I think this differs from writer to writer. For me, if I take time off, I might just sail right on out to sea. I try to turn writer’s block in on itself, use it to fuel my work - which happens to be the subject of the post I put in the URL field on this comment… :)

@Nick I’d wish you best of luck, but luck doesn’t play into it. Why don’t you do some drawings? Those 10 year-old images you posted were very striking. I sometimes find that by shifting into a different mode of expression I sometimes open up doors elsewhere.

Jamie just hit all my best advice-points! But since I’m here, how about a rephrase? The part of the brain that creates is like an old-time pump: Keep it in use and the water will (more or less) keep flowing; walk away and leave it too long, and the pump will rust up. The important thing is to keep your brain-pump primed with those creative juices - it doesn’t matter so much whether it’s writing a blog post or whittling a chunk of wood or painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, as long as you’re creating you’re not in danger of rust. If all else fails, you can always visit other people’s blogs and write some ridiculously extended metaphors in their comments! ;)

I use Google Alerts to make sure I always have something to say. Just post a few of your keywords (or interests) and you will have a steady flow of content to draw ideas from.

I am also frequently inspired by Digg. I got lots of friends just by searching Digg for very basic keywords relating to my blog. Then I just pay attention to what they find important by watching their shouts. I also make sure I keep them happy by Digging all of their shouts and whatever strikes me about the rest of their Diggs too.

      Just some random thoughts.
