New Discovery: Beer Can Chicken
By Nick | May 26, 2008
Over the years I have become more and more interested in backyard grilling. I’ve tried numerous things, but what I discovered this weekend is the best grilling discovery I have made up until now.
Three words; Beer Can Chicken.
I heard about it a while go and have been wanting to try it ever since. Several months back I picked up a book (Beer-Can Chicken: And 74 Other Offbeat Recipes for the Grill) dedicated to the art of the beer can chicken and we decided that today would be the day that we gave it a whirl. I’ll have to admit, I was a little bit nervous to give this a try at first, but boy am I glad that I went through with it. This is hands down, the most moist, flavorful chicken I have ever cooked. From now on, this will be the only way that I cook chicken.
Basically, you take a whole chicken, rub it with oil and spices, then shove a half full can of beer with more spices up it’s backside, and let it cook on the grill with a smoking box for about an hour and a half. There are tons of variations on the chicken with various marinades, beers, and juices that you can put on the can…and let me tell you, I cannot wait to try every last one of them.
This summer will be the summer of the beer can chicken.

It looks like it would be delicious!!! I have seen it, but never tried it. It seems like a long time on the grill, is the grill at a low temp?
