“Cause I’m Feeling Like a Criminal”

    By Nick | November 16, 2007

Last night I got my first ticket since I was 16 years old.  Wow.  I feel like a tool.  I guess I had it coming since I am perpetually speeding.  Could be worse.  But come on…Disregarding a stop sign.  I suck.

When the officer came to my window, I had everything ready.  See, I was hoping to get a warning by fully cooperating.  He asked why I was in a hurry and I told him “My excuse is that I am an idiot.”  He laughed and asked me what my vanity license plate meant.  I thought I had him wrapped around my finger.  I have always heard that cops are easy on people that don’t play games with them.  Apparently not.  $96.00 fine.  Ouch.

EDIT: Upon further inspection of the summons I notice that the officer put my court date as January 8, 2007…..NOT 2008.  I wonder if I can get it thrown out for that?  Hmmm.

It is quite possible that you could…does the ticket cite the date and time of the traffic stop?

Here in Ontario they’ve started a new policy for speeding. If you are going 50KM over the speed limit you lose your license and forfeit your vehicle!! (50KM = 30MPH)

I got a ticket when I was 19 for speeding. Then I didn’t get another one until I was 35…but I got 3 (THREE) in the span of 6 weeks. This was when I was driving from VaBeach to Toronto every two weekends for a year. I got one on 95 outside of Alexandria, got one in New York state, and then another in Toronto. Now luckily, I was licensed in Utah, so none of those tickets hit my record AND my Canadian driving record is spotless now since I have a new record. So my advice is…if you get a couple more…move to Canada!!

I should add…that since I’ve now told you this story I’m probably going to get a ticket on my trip next week! Just watch.

Ouch! If it makes you feel any better, I was the best driver in the universe from the time I was 16 up until I was 22 - I had 1 speeding ticket when I was 19 (on 58 West in Southampton County, which just about everyone gets ticketed on) and that was it. And then I got a DWI on Memorial Day of 2002 and all those years of driving like an angel got thrown right out the window! Lesson learned, to say the least.

Well, I can relate. I don’t speed anywhere near as often as I used to, and I REALLY WAS paying attention for most of my ride back home from Mt. Shasta about a month ago. However, I got distracted by laughter after making my roommate grab the “Oh Shit!” handle over his seat on a curve. The officer was polite and made nice conversation…even while handing me my ticket. I did get a discounted speed, but still got the ticket. I’ll get it dismissed with traffic school (which of course is more $$.
