Martha Jefferson finds a new home.

Martha Jefferson finds a new home.

So I was at the farm in Charlottesville working my butt off and when I came back to the house to take a break, my sister told me there were kittens outside. I went outside and sure enough there was a “nest” of tiny baby kittens…three of them to be exact. We all thought it was a little late in the season and worried that these little guys wouldn’t make it through the winter being that they were so young, so we decided to liberate them from the clutches of a chilly Charlottesville winter. It took about 45 minutes of brute strength to deconstruct the rock garden that they were hiding in, but we succeeded without any casualties…human or feline.

I introduce to you Martha Jefferson…but we call her MJ. The reason I picked that name is because my grandparent’s farm is less than 2 miles away from Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home. Martha was his wife…so I thought it was fitting. And just weird enough of a name to make people think I am a little off.

Took her to the vet today…they said she was between 5 and 6 weeks old. She only weighs a pound!

Aww she is adorable! She reminds me a little of our Mable when she was a little one.

Did you know that all calico cats are female? Calico is a female trait only. Coat color in cats is a sex-linked trait – interesting bit of useless knowledge for you! You are welcome my friend.

Cute kittie. That was really nice of you guys to save the kitties before it got too cold.

I think you will have to explain to people what “MJ” stands for. Some might think Michael Jackson!

AND you found her the day after Halloween…she is a Thriller Kitty!

My daughter says it is for Mary Jane. Guess I’ll pick up that test kit on the way home ;)

You should have been more open minded and named her “Sally”! Have you ever been to Jeffersons home? What do you imagine that space above his bed was made for?
