Too Honest For My Own Good?
By Nick | January 7, 2009
Sometimes I get the feeling that perhaps I am too honest. Case in point. Today I had a web design client contact me via email saying that they wanted to completely redo their website because they thought it was too boring. They sent me the link to the site in question and I thought exactly the opposite! The site was well organized, had a professional and timeless design, and really captured my attention. I tend to be a snob when it comes to site design (and yes I do find fault in my designs as well), so that says a lot!
I sent the potential client an email actually trying to talk them out of redesigning their site. The thing is, I don’t think that spending money on a completely new site would achieve them anything more than they were already achieving. Sure the site could use some Search Engine Optimization techniques applied to it, but its definitely not in need of a complete renovation like the client was asking.
The business person inside of me tells me that I am an idiot for sending that email (that could be good money!!)…then again another part of me feels really good about being honest. I guess I will just classify this as an entry into my good karma account.

That is one of the things I love most about you (that and your uncanny ability to make me laugh right out loud just when I need it most as well as your smokin’ hot bod)…you are honest to a fault. Painfully honest at times! I too have been accused of being too honest and too nice, blah blah blah (even by you), but it is all good juju and good karma for when you need it. I am a big believer in following your heart and not your bank account. You did the right thing and you will be rewarded. Nice guys don’t always finish last!!!

I think you’re right when you said “spending money on a completely new site would achieve them anything more than they were already achieving”
Perhaps they just aren’t really sure what exactly they are wanting. Hopefully you are still able to help them and earn some of that hard earned cash ;)

I agree with Christy.
