    Affirmation #1

    By Nick | January 31, 2008

From time to time I come across sayings, or affirmations that really strike a chord with me and I plan on documenting them.

I’ll start off with this one that I found in a holistic book store on a journal a few weeks ago.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself.  Life is about creating yourself.” -unknown

I saw this at the perfect time too.  I was having a crummy day, wondering what I was doing and why I was doing it…then I saw this.  It totally shifted my perspective (for the moment anyways).  I typed it up, printed it out and taped it to my laptop where I would see it everyday.  We all focus so much on find who we are or who we are supposed to be and instead we should focus on creating the reality that we want.  We need to do less finding and more creating.  Finding to me seems past tense for some reason.  Creating is so much more about living in the now.  Does that make sense?

I really like this affirmation. My question is, however, how does one go about creating oneself? It sounds like such a good approach to life, but how to do it?

1st you eliminate the negativity from your life, then you have to throw out all those notions of who and what you should be that you learn on TV and in the movies, then you forget most of what your parents said you should be, then you make a short list of people or qualities you admire and focus on making that part of your every day life. Say it out loud every day, write it down…see it and be it. It takes 30 days make a new idea or habit stick. Simple, huh?

My question is: When will Christy be holding her next motivational speaking tour? – because she’s really good!!

It does sound like the thing to do, and then I think, but wait, dig deep, look within to find the answers that are alluding you, then I think, wait, by digging deep am I hoping to find that I am a better person than I believe I am?

In digging deep am I hoping to uncover something profoundly good pure and worthwhile inside of me, that is me? Or in digging deep am I looking to uncover that which is in me that is not of good character, so I can uproot it, change it? Then I try to look within, really try and I am looking sometimes at nothing, because if you don’t know what you’re looking for, how are you ever going to find it?

Oh hell, this makes perfect sense, forget all that we’ve been told before and simply create who it is that we want to be.
