The Karate Kid and its relation to Affirmation #1
By Nick | February 5, 2008
So last night I found myself watching the Karate Kid. Yes the same Karate Kid with the cheesy 80′s music. What can I say? I loved that movie when I saw it in the theater (and umpteen times after that) when I was a kid and to be honest with you…I still like it. I still got goosebumps at the end. Embarrasing? Probably. Do I care? Not really.
Anyways…on to the point of this post. “The Karate Kid and its relation to Affirmation1.” Today something came up that required an analogy or metaphor and I drew on something I saw in one of the scenes from the movie. Then I realized that it was a perfect example for my post last week about the affirmation “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
There is a scene where Daniel (Ralph Macchio) is riding his bike and gets pushed down a hill by The Cobra Kai boys. Daniel gets pissed and throws his bike in the garbage because it is pretty much destroyed after the fall. The next day he finds his bike on his doorstep looking brand new. He goes down to thank Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) who fixed the bike and sees that he is working on Bonsai. Mr. Miyagi asks if he wants to take an attempt at Bonsai and finally convices Daniel that he can do it. He tells him “Close Eyes”. Then instructs Daniel to visualize a Bonsai tree. Then he says “Concentrate. Think only tree. Make perfect picture down to last leaf. Wipe mind clean, everything but tree. Nothing exists in the whole world. Just tree.” Then he tells Daniel to open his eyes and then asks him if he remembers what he saw. Daniel says yes and Mr. Miyagi pushes a tree in front of Daniel and says “Now make like picture. Trust Picture.” Daniel then says “But what is my picture is the wrong one?” Mr Miyagi replies, “If it comes from inside you, always right one.”
Create your picture of yourself.

You are so right. Follow your heart and just do the right thing and be true to your vision…it is the right one..and @&^*%$# what everyone else thinks. Why is it that we let others make us question ourselves when we have the right answer inside all along?
Right is right, wrong is wrong, ugly is ugly.
Thank you again for the reminder and sorry again that I killed the Bonsai tree you gave me :(
